At 1:20 a.m. on Oct. 24, 25‑year‑old Katherine Kelly opened fire on a car parked on Bamboo Avenue in Port St. John after spotting her boyfriend, Elijah Baker, with another woman. Kelly, who had tracked Baker’s location via an Uber after suspecting infidelity, approached the vehicle and fired a single round through the passenger side, striking Angel Adenau in the left shoulder.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kelly shortly after the shooting. She now faces charges of attempted first‑degree murder, aggravated battery with a weapon and shooting into a vehicle. Investigators recovered a pink‑and‑black Glock and a 9‑mm shell casing at the scene.
Text messages obtained from Baker’s phone show a series of accusations of cheating and a threat from Kelly to shoot someone. While initially claiming self‑defense, Kelly later admitted to firing “to make a point.” Adenau was rushed to Holmes Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Sheriff’s spokesperson said the case will be heard in the Brevard County Circuit Court, with the first hearing slated for late November. The court will decide whether Kelly will be remanded on bond or held on the full $250,000 bail.
Adenau remains in the hospital, her injuries listed as a shoulder wound and a mild concussion. Baker drove her home after the incident, and neighbors reported hearing gunfire and seeing a woman in tears on the street. The incident has sparked a broader conversation about domestic disputes and gun safety in the region.
