Rahul Gandhi stormed the Akashvani Bhawan in central Delhi on Tuesday, joining Priyanka Gandhi for a sit‑in that ended when police detained both leaders and filed an FIR.
The entry occurred without notifying INDIA bloc allies, who felt the protest had been hijacked by the Gandhi siblings. TMC’s envoy Derek O’Brien and Samajwadi MP Mohibullah Nadvi were quick to criticize the move.
Congress officials defended the surprise protest, arguing that spontaneity keeps demonstrations fresh. They cited earlier unscheduled protests at the Prime Minister’s residence that eventually led to an education minister’s resignation.
A Delhi resident who watched the sit‑in from a nearby shop said the scene turned chaotic, with police clashing with protesters.
The central government is expected to issue a statement by Friday, while opposition leaders plan a joint meeting to resolve the rift.
