NTPC shares rose 1.4% on the day of the earnings release, nudging past the ₹1,200 mark on the NSE. The lift came as the utility posted a 14.3% YoY jump in standalone net profit, reaching ₹5,320 crore for Q2 FY27, a figure that outstripped the ₹5,031 crore consensus of CNBC‑TV18.
Revenue from operations climbed 16.8% year‑on‑year to ₹45,752 crore, eclipsing the ₹43,192 crore estimate. EBITDA rose 8.7% to ₹10,891 crore, but missed the ₹12,393 crore target, while the margin settled at 24% versus 26% a year earlier and 29% expected by analysts.
NTPC’s board announced a first interim dividend of ₹3 per equity share, a 30% payout on a ₹10 face value. The declaration lifted investor sentiment and set a record date of 6 November 2026 for dividend eligibility. Capital expenditure for H1 FY27 stood at ₹23,932 crore, a modest increase over ₹23,115 crore in H1 FY26.
The company is pushing forward on its pumped‑storage and battery‑storage ambitions, with a 16 GW pumped‑storage portfolio and 5 GWh of battery storage slated for commissioning from June 2027. Nuclear expansion is also underway, with NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam identifying 30 potential sites and completing selection studies at four locations.
Looking ahead, analysts will be watching for guidance on FY28 capex and the timeline of the pumped‑storage rollout. The market will also gauge whether the dividend policy signals a shift toward shareholder returns amid rising operational costs.
