Gurugram police ordered 33‑year‑old Kalyan Bainsla into 14‑day judicial custody on Friday. He was taken after a two‑day search in Rajgarh, Rajasthan, where police apprehended him and his cousin Lavneesh, 34. Both were held in police custody for 48 hours before the court directed their transfer. The move follows the arrest of Bainsla on Tuesday for a hit‑and‑run that left biker Shivani Chauhan seriously injured.
Chauhan, 27, was hit by a vehicle while riding a bike on a Gurugram highway. She says the driver, Bainsla, was accompanied by two other passengers, who are yet to be named. ‘There were two other people in the car. They should be arrested as well,’ she urged, warning that lax enforcement would repeat such incidents.
The case will next be heard by Civil Judge Nidhi Beniwal on October 1. Both accused were brought before the court after the end of their police custody, and the judge has set the hearing date for the upcoming month.
Bainsla’s cousin Kamal has defended him, labeling the incident a ‘victim card’ and accusing the media of bias. In a statement to PTI, Kamal said, ‘Kalyan is innocent. They are influencing people to ride bikes at high speed.’ Chauhan has responded, noting her reputation as Delhi’s youngest municipal candidate and insisting the case must be pursued without prejudice.
Bail is pending, with authorities still reviewing evidence before granting release. The investigation now focuses on identifying the two unnamed passengers and determining whether they faced any legal action. For Chauhan, the crash has turned a daily commute into a fight for justice, as she becomes a vocal advocate against reckless driving.
