Conor Shea, a 28‑year‑old from Louisville, completed the blindfolded assembly of a Mr Potato Head in 7.91 seconds on 7 February 2026, breaking the previous record of 8.02 seconds set by James Lee in 2019 under the supervision of Guinness World Records officials.
The stunt was not a mere speed contest. Shea said, "By doing it blindfolded, I wanted to show that people with Usher Syndrome can still achieve impressive feats." The rare genetic disorder, which causes progressive hearing loss and eventual blindness, affects about 1 in 20,000 people worldwide.
Guinness’ head of competitions, Maria Torres, confirmed the record after independent video analysis. "The timing was verified by a certified stopwatch and three independent witnesses," she said.
The record has already sparked a surge of online discussion. An Instagram post by 17‑year‑old Maya Singh, who has Usher Syndrome, went viral with the caption, "This inspires me to keep pushing!" Her story reached 120,000 followers.
