The former UW‑Milwaukee Waukesha campus, which opened in the 1960s and closed in 2025 after the university announced the shutdown in March 2024, sits on 75.9 acres of land owned by Waukesha County since 1965.
County officials partnered with F Street and the City of Waukesha to design a mixed‑residential neighborhood that would feature roughly 70 single‑family houses and 600 market‑rate multifamily units, including two‑storey garden‑style and three‑ to four‑storey apartment buildings. The master plan also calls for green space, walking trails and open areas that use existing natural features to buffer the development from surrounding neighborhoods.
If approved, the development could inject more than $150 million into the local tax base and generate about $1.56 million in annual city revenue, according to county estimates.
The project still faces scrutiny from the City of Waukesha Plan Commission and the Common Council; demolition is slated for early 2027 only after those approvals.
