In a terse X post on Monday evening, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba announced that security forces had detained Mujurizi Moses, a man prosecutors say has killed and devoured 38 victims over a 15‑year span.
Moses is accused of murdering entire families in Masaka, Ibanda and Kazo, breaking into homes with a machete and lacing the killings with cannibalism, according to investigators.
The suspect allegedly lured victims with promises of a relationship before striking, and was reportedly captured twice before, only to escape or be released under disputed circumstances.
Following the latest arrest, officers recovered blood‑stained tools and other forensic evidence from Moses's residence and are cross‑referencing missing‑person reports from the districts to map the chain of crimes.
A family of a 2018 victim said the news brings a flicker of closure, though they fear the trial will reopen old wounds.
Moses will be tried in a public court, and the military has pledged a death sentence, with the hearing slated for early next month as the judiciary prepares to process the evidence.
