On Oct. 12, 2026, NSUI members in Delhi renamed their official WhatsApp group to "WE THE Chhotu" to protest the centrality of Neha Bora, president of the All India Students' Association (AISA), during Rahul Gandhi's protest march to the Supreme Court.
The move followed Bora's prominent participation in the march, where Rahul rested his hands on her shoulder and she was seen on the bus and truck that carried top leaders. NSUI, which contests student elections with AISA across multiple universities, felt sidelined as Bora was highlighted over its own members.
An NSUI officer said the group name change reflected frustration: "Are we only here to gather crowds?" The grievance was brought to the attention of the Congress high command, which arranged a meeting with Rahul Gandhi in the evening of Oct. 13.
During the meeting, Rahul acknowledged the discontent and promised to include more NSUI voices in future campaigns. The group name was reverted to its original title the next day, and NSUI leaders announced plans to hold an internal forum to address representation issues.
Both parties agreed to schedule a joint session with the National Youth Congress to discuss the role of student wings in upcoming elections, with the first meeting slated for Nov. 5.
