A ₹1,000 stake in Reliance Industries' 1977 IPO now sits at ₹54.5 lakh—an almost 54‑fold increase after bonus issues and the Jio Financial demerger.
The original 100 shares, bought at ₹10 face value, morphed into 4,096 shares following four bonus issuances (1:1 in 1997, 2009, 2017, 2024) and two 5:2 bonuses in 1980 and 1983.
When Reliance spun off Jio Financial, shareholders received one Jio share per Reliance share—adding roughly ₹4.5 lakh to the portfolio, pushing the total to ₹54.5 lakh.
In 1977, the same ₹1,000 could have bought 20.58 grams of gold, now worth about ₹3 lakh. Reliance’s equity now eclipses gold’s value by a factor of ~18.
The forthcoming Jio IPO is slated to be the largest in Indian history, and analysts expect it to further accelerate the company’s valuation trajectory. Market watchers will keep a close eye on the share price as the filing date approaches.
