The decomposed body of a 17-year-old girl, partially consumed by stray dogs with one hand severed, lay in Jaipal Rana’s field on Kushak Road when police discovered it on September 13. The victim’s family had not reported her missing, stating she frequently left home and returned days later, a detail that initially stalled the investigation. But the scene was too brutal to ignore, and police moved quickly to analyze over 50 CCTV cameras covering the area.
Investigators spotted a tempo moving near the site around the relevant time, its registration number obscured by darkness. They tracked the vehicle’s movement across multiple locations until they traced it to Khadda Colony in Swaroop Nagar. A night-long search operation on the intervening night of September 15 and 16 led to the identification of the driver and the subsequent apprehension of four suspects. The adult, identified as Shivam alias Sudama alias Chuchu, resides in Khadda Colony, while the three juveniles are aged 16 and 17.
Police alleged the group knew the victim, and they allegedly drank together inside the tempo before the assault. The girl was raped, stabbed to death, and her body dumped in the open field. Authorities recovered two knives, clothes allegedly worn by the accused, and the tempo itself from the scene. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
With no apparent eyewitnesses, the investigation relies heavily on forensic and technical evidence. Police are currently working to establish the exact sequence of events and the individual roles of the four apprehended persons. The forensic team is analyzing the recovered items to match them with the crime scene and the victim’s remains.
