Union Home Minister Amit Shah stepped into the Delhi Police headquarters on Saturday, four years after his last visit on 30 August 2022, to chair a security review meeting with senior officers and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The meeting was convened amid growing scrutiny over the police’s alleged use of excessive force during the July ‘Sansad Chalo’ march and the ongoing protests over the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls.
Shah’s discussion with the force’s top brass focused on drug enforcement, the cross‑border gangster networks that operate from abroad, and targeted crimes against women. Police sources said the briefing also covered coordination with international agencies to dismantle transnational crime syndicates.
The review session began around 3 pm on Jai Singh Road, where officers briefed Shah on current investigations, operational challenges, and recent incidents that have drawn national attention. The presence of the Delhi CM underscored the central government’s intent to recalibrate policing amid escalating civil unrest.
In a post on X, Shah’s office announced that he had chaired the review meeting, noting the attendance of the CM and senior officials. The post was met with mixed reactions online, as opposition parties and student groups continue to demand greater accountability from the police.
The outcomes of the review are expected to shape the Home Ministry’s deployment strategy for the capital in the run‑up to the next general elections, aiming to prevent violence and restore public confidence in law enforcement.
