YS Jagan Mohan Reddy posted a price‑chart on X today, alleging that the TDP government under N. Chandrababu Naidu has lifted the cost of rice, oil, onions, sugar, milk and eggs by up to 70% in two years.
Rice climbed from ₹56 to ₹95 per kg, palm oil from ₹85 to ₹165, sunflower oil from ₹110 to ₹189, onions from ₹15 to ₹80, red gram from ₹110 to ₹180, sugar from ₹30 to ₹65, milk from ₹44 to ₹80 and eggs from ₹4.50 to ₹8.
The State Election Commission will conduct polls for 100 urban local bodies on Nov. 1, covering 13 municipal corporations and 87 municipalities and nagar panchayats, after the Supreme Court postponed the original Oct. 28 date.
TDP spokesperson said the allegations are baseless political mud‑slinging, while the Jana Sena Party has pledged to contest the mayoral seats in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada.
A resident of Visakhapatnam says she now spends ₹5,000 more each month on groceries, a burden that could sway voter sentiment.
Polls will begin at 6 am on Nov. 1, and the results will test the TDP coalition's claim of economic stewardship amid rising consumer prices.
