Three CJP leaders—Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde—were taken into custody by Delhi Police on Tuesday morning after they crossed barricades and entered Jantar Mantar, chanting for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
Their arrest follows a prior release after the trio posted a ₹50,000 peace bond and pledged not to be involved in breach‑of‑peace cases for a year; this time they face charges of trespassing and violating the bond terms.
Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar had earlier, on October 11, declared Jantar Mantar off‑limits for protests, designating Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground and CBD Ground as approved sites—a decision the CJP says will dilute the impact of public demonstrations.
The CJP’s legal team, led by Ratna Singh, warned that the leaders were denied legal counsel until late at night and were transported to Parliament Street Police Station in a private van at 3 am, hinting at possible judicial custody at Tihar Jail.
The trio will be produced before the SCM Court that same morning; a hearing is scheduled for the afternoon, after which the court will decide on bail or detention, while the broader protest movement continues to press for reforms in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
