On September 14, Delhi Police registered a case against AAP councillor Vijay Kumar under Section 108 of the Indian Penal Code for alleged abetment of the suicide of MCD sanitation worker Deepak, a 45‑year‑old from Trilokpuri’s Blocks 1 and 2.
Deepak’s wife, Sangeeta, says the councillor retained a Rs 15 lakh loan meant for a house, withheld the funds, and threatened the worker with transfer if he raised the issue; she also claims Deepak was unpaid for 10 months.
BJP Delhi chief Harsh Malhotra demanded action, accusing the councillor of demanding Rs 25,000 for every Rs 1 lakh and of misusing Deepak’s cheques for salary withdrawals; he said bank records would be scrutinised.
Police will examine loan documents, bank transactions, salary records, and communications between Deepak and the councillor before the suicide; the case will be filed with the court and a hearing is expected to follow in the coming weeks.
