Sigma Advanced Systems Limited announced it has secured a ₹973 crore order from a NATO customer for the production of base‑bleed units for 155 mm artillery shells, pushing the share price up 4.99% to ₹820.30 on the NSE.
The contract, valued at $102.23 M, will be fulfilled over a 12‑month period, adding a new revenue stream to the company’s existing artillery shell and fuze business.
Base‑bleed technology, which reduces aerodynamic drag and extends projectile range, is a niche component that has not been a major revenue driver for the firm until now. CEO Sunil Kalidindi told investors that repeat orders from customers demonstrate the trust earned through prior programmes and that this deal strengthens the company’s position as an integrated ammunition supplier.
The order expands Sigma’s footprint across the 155 mm artillery value chain, aligning with its vertical‑integration strategy under the Make‑in‑India defence initiative. In the broader defence sector, such contracts are rare, and the deal places Sigma among a handful of firms with comprehensive 155 mm capabilities.
Looking ahead, the company expects that the new order will open the door to additional NATO and domestic contracts, reducing dependence on external suppliers and bolstering supply‑chain control. Analysts anticipate that the integrated approach could translate into higher margins and a stronger balance sheet as the firm scales up production for future orders.
