The emergency call that sparked the investigation came when 9‑year‑old Alex Miller was struck on the head by a falling dumbbell while the house was empty. Paramedics rushed him to St. John Hospital, where he was treated for a mild concussion and released the same day.
The incident was reported by the kids’ father, who drove to the home after receiving a 911 call from his eldest daughter, who was reportedly terrified by the event.
Osceola County deputies traced the family’s flight records and found that Irene Miller had departed from Orlando International Airport for a six‑day business trip to Las Vegas on October 17, 2026, and returned the following week.
When detectives met her upon arrival at the airport, Miller admitted she had hired a babysitter to check in on the children in the mornings but insisted the sitter never stayed overnight.
Sheriff Chris Blackmon said in a statement, "We will not tolerate child neglect. Parents who fail to supervise their children will face charges."
Miller was booked into the Orange County jail and will appear before a judge on November 4, 2026 for arraignment on the child‑neglect charges.
