BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused Rahul Gandhi of backing a Bangladesh‑style Gen Z protest movement in India on Thursday, citing a video of the Congress leader and student activist Neha Bora.
The video shows Gandhi speaking alongside Bora, who said the movement was inspired by the protests in Bangladesh and that they want a similar upheaval in India. Bhandari added that Bora’s remarks reflected Gandhi’s political ideology and that the movement is aimed at anarchy rather than democratic resistance.
Bhandari linked the claims to a joint press conference between Gandhi and Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan, arguing that Bhushan’s calls for a “revolution” and bloodshed signal a pattern of legitimising anarchy. He said that the pattern indicates Gandhi’s objective is not democratic protest but the appropriation of anarchy.
The BJP’s accusations come amid protests by the Cockroach Janta Party and opposition parties against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The allegations have intensified scrutiny of Rahul Gandhi’s involvement in student protests and have prompted opposition leaders to demand a formal probe into his role.
Bhandari said the BJP will present the evidence to the press and to relevant authorities, while the opposition is preparing to file a formal request for an investigation into Gandhi’s alleged support for the movement.
