Delhi Police moved a second case against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to the Crime Branch on Tuesday. Sources confirmed the shift, which places the investigation under the specialized unit just ahead of a scheduled hearing. This follows Monday’s transfer of the case linked to the leaders’ alleged entry into the Jantar Mantar area.
The Crime Branch now holds two active cases against Das and Ranka. The original incident dates to October 13, when Das, Ranka, Ajinkya Shinde, and 11 other CJP members reached Jantar Mantar. Police stated the group entered the designated protest site by trespassing through private premises. Officers deployed at the scene intervened, detaining all 14 individuals and registering two FIRs.
A Special Executive Magistrate sent Das and Ranka to five-day judicial custody on October 14 for breaching peace bonds. The court extended their custody by two days on Monday. The shift to the Crime Branch signals a deeper scrutiny of the group’s activities, moving the inquiry away from local station commanders.
The legal pressure on the CJP leaders is intensifying as the specialized unit digs into the details of the breach. With custody extended, the next phase of the investigation will likely focus on the mechanics of how the group bypassed security. Court proceedings will determine the next steps for the detained leaders.
