The trophies currently sit at ACC headquarters in Dubai after the teams refused to take them from President Mohsin Naqvi. In the women’s T20 Asia Cup final, Harmanpreet Kaur’s squad chose not to attend the formal ceremony and instead handed out medals on their own.
Saikia reiterated that the decision was a firm institutional stance, not a slight against the players or the tournament. He told PTI that the BCCI had informed the ACC beforehand that Indian teams would not participate in the trophy presentation under the proposed circumstances.
This stance may ripple into the Asian Games, where both India and Pakistan will face off under ACC oversight. Naqvi’s term as ACC president ends in April 2027, and any involvement in medal ceremonies could become another flashpoint.
