The body of Krishna Gupta, a 52‑year‑old grocery store owner battling blood cancer, lay abandoned near the Officers Training Academy in Gaya on September 26, two days after the fatal attack.
A missing‑person report for both Gupta and his son Chandan Raj was filed at Vishnupad police station on September 25, prompting a joint investigation that connected the corpse to the earlier filing.
Police allege Raj had been involved with a married woman for a decade, who demanded he transfer family land in her name; Raj allegedly threatened to kill his father if he refused. The woman, 10 years his senior, allegedly gave him an ultimatum, the police said.
During interrogation, Raj confessed to striking his father with a stone and a stick, claiming he acted under pressure. Technical evidence—fingerprint and DNA—linked the body to the missing‑person report.
Raj was booked under Sections 302 and 304 of the IPC and is slated for trial in Gaya court next month. Gupta’s wife, now 45, mourns the loss, while the community watches the case unfold.
