Kovika Dyes & Intermediates lost four workers when a pipe burst near a boiler during fitting work, killing Vinodkumar Nandlal Singh (42), Teda Dehari (18), Sikandar Lakhan Dehari (40) and Laxman Meena from Udaipur.
The incident unfolded in Chhatral GIDC Phase‑4, a cluster of industrial units that feed Gujarat’s textile and dye export chain.
Inspector J J Gadhavi of Kalol Taluka police said the pipe burst due to pressure, and that the blast was not caused by sabotage or an external fire.
Gandhinagar Superintendent Ravi Teja Vasamsetty directed the Forensic Science Laboratory to collect samples and the Gujarat Pollution Control Board to examine the site for flammable residues.
A family of one of the victims, a 42‑year‑old resident of Jharkhand, says they are desperate for answers and fear the company may be sheltering negligence.
Police will file an accidental death case and a preliminary report is expected by Friday, after which the company will be summoned for a compliance audit.
