If you’re eyeing a new car this year, Maruti Suzuki’s latest numbers show the brand is riding a sales wave, especially in the small‑car segment. The July‑September quarter brought in 6,96,654 vehicles, a 26.5% jump on the previous year, and the company’s domestic market share climbed to 40.8%.
CNG is turning from niche to mainstream for Maruti. Sales of its CNG‑powered vehicles jumped 44% in H1, with 4.5 lakh units already sold and a full‑year forecast of over 9 lakh. The company is pushing about 80,000 CNG cars a month, backed by a large backlog, and is even seeing diesel‑owners switch to CNG thanks to new under‑body tanks and automatic‑transmission options.
Rural markets continue to be a backbone, now making up roughly 52% of all sales—up 2.2 percentage points from the first half. Yet the monsoon’s softness in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka could dent farm incomes and, in turn, vehicle purchases once the festive season’s boost fades.
Exports remain a big part of the equation. Maruti shipped 4,47,774 units last year, but West‑Asia tensions trimmed growth. The firm is reallocating shipments to other markets, although it expects export growth to stay modest compared to FY26.
With factory capacity ramping up from January, Maruti aims for double‑digit growth in the second half of FY27. Buyers can look forward to a broader inventory, especially in the CNG segment, and potentially better pricing as the supply chain tightens. Keep an eye on the upcoming launch windows in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, where dealers are already lining up vehicles to meet the anticipated demand spike.
