A man died after a tiger attacked him inside the enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster on Saturday. The incident was reported at about 1:30 pm (1230 GMT), prompting a rapid response from South Yorkshire Police.
Police said the tiger subsequently mauled the visitor, causing serious injuries. Emergency teams arrived with two ground ambulances and an air ambulance, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tiger stayed within its enclosure following the attack, and authorities confirmed there was no wider danger to the public. All visitors were evacuated promptly.
The park’s “Land of the Tigers” feature includes a 300‑metre raised walkway overlooking a habitat that houses Amur tigers, a subspecies of which only about 500 remain in the wild.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park announced it will stay closed on Sunday to allow for a thorough safety review. The closure comes after the park’s staff confirmed a serious incident had occurred.
