The renaming was unveiled during a ceremony in Bhadohi district, where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed local leaders and residents. He noted that the district, which had been known as Bhadohi since 1994 and was briefly renamed Sant Ravidas Nagar in 2014, now carries the saint’s name permanently.
Adityanath also laid the foundation stones for 112 projects valued at ₹1.34 trillion, covering everything from road upgrades to educational facilities. The projects aim to modernise the district’s infrastructure and boost its renowned carpet industry.
He linked the name change to Sant Ravidas’s ideals of equality, saying the district’s new title underscores a vision where no one goes hungry and welfare reaches all. He added that under Modi’s flagship free‑ration scheme, 80 crore Indians now receive subsidised food.
The chief minister announced a six‑month plan to create 100,000 jobs for youth, citing the district’s strategic position between Varanasi and Prayagraj and the upcoming extension of the Ganga Expressway via the Vindhya corridor. He promised the projects would also support the Ganga Expressway’s connectivity goals.
Implementation of the 112 projects will begin immediately, with progress to be monitored by the state’s development council. The next phase will involve detailed site visits and the issuance of tenders for construction contracts.
