Three drums of cash worth crores were unearthed in a Ramnagar village house owned by brothers Rakesh and Rajesh Yadav, after a tip prompted a Wednesday raid by the Nawabganj and Soraon police teams.
The brothers, once employed in Pune, abandoned their jobs during the 2020 pandemic and returned to their ancestral home, where their sudden acquisition of acres, a tractor, and lavish spending baffled neighbours.
Local residents, frustrated by a dispute over land, approached the police, alleging the men were hoarding black money, a claim that coincided with ongoing investigations into organised crime in the Ganganagar zone.
Acting on precise intelligence, officers first found the house unremarkable, but soil in a bedroom floor appeared recently disturbed; a team of labourers then unearthed three black‑plastic‑wrapped drums, each packed with bundles of ₹500 notes.
DCP Sonam Kumar said the recovered amount is so large the exact total will only emerge after a formal count, while a family member was arrested despite frequent changing statements.
The Income Tax Department and other financial agencies are slated to arrive for a comprehensive count, and the brothers face pending charges as the investigation continues.
