Kévin T., 38, opened fire from a vehicle in Trappes and La Verrière, killing 26‑year‑old MMA fighter Pengo Bossio Wangi and wounding five others, including a 12‑year‑old girl, in a 15‑minute spree that authorities now label a racist terror attack.
Atch Academy, the fighter’s home club in Aubervilliers, posted a tribute on Instagram, calling Wangi "one of us" and condemning the senseless killing.
President Emmanuel Macron, after visiting Trappes, declared the incident a "racist terror attack" and vowed that "there is no place for this in France."
The suspect, identified as Kévin T., 1987, has four prior convictions that were expunged under French law; investigators seized a Sten‑type submachine gun, tear‑gas canister, and evidence of a homemade trap in his car and apartment.
The National Anti‑Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office has taken over the probe, and a relative of the suspect has been detained, while the 12‑year‑old victim was hospitalized with a broken arm.
Law enforcement will soon present the case in court, and the investigation will examine whether the attack was motivated by the victim’s skin colour or religion.
