Ukrainian drones struck a Russian petrochemical facility in Togliatti overnight, igniting a fire that damaged critical infrastructure. The General Staff confirmed the strike, noting the explosion reached a height of 300 metres before the fire was brought under control.
Sergei Aksyonov, Russia’s appointed head of Crimea, said electricity and water supplies were cut across the peninsula because the main power grids outside the region sustained drone damage. He added that the disruptions were temporary, but did not disclose how many households were affected.
Russia’s Defence Ministry reported that 616 Ukrainian drones were intercepted across more than 20 regions, a tally that includes the 126 that reached the Togliatti plant. Local officials in Crimea also said falling debris caused minor injuries and sparked small fires in residential areas.
The attack on Togliatti’s Petrochemical plant is part of a broader Ukrainian strategy to target Russian industrial assets. Ukrainian defence minister Evhenii Khmara announced that satellite communications were restored at speeds exceeding 400 km/h, a move that may aid coordination of future strikes.
