A gunman killed eight people, including two children, in an Erie home on Friday at 5 p.m., before taking his own life.
Police were first dispatched after reports of gunfire, arriving to find two women dead on the street. The shooter barricaded himself inside the house as officers surrounded the building.
During the standoff, several additional shots were fired from inside, and when officers finally entered, they found more victims, including the children, and the gunman with a self‑inflicted wound.
Erie News Now said the police are offering counseling to responding officers. The mayor is expected to hold a press conference Saturday afternoon to address the tragedy.
