On Thursday, October 2, a vehicle carrying three senior media personnel lost control and slid off a steep slope near Sateek in Mizoram, killing Dr Engam Pame, Nampibou Marinmai and H Lianvela.
The deceased were key figures in India’s public information machinery: Pame was the Additional Director General of the PIB and CBC in Imphal; Marinmai headed news for Doordarshan Kendra Aizawl; Lianvela served as a multi‑tasking staffer at the PIB field office.
Officials were in Mizoram to attend meetings of the Inter‑Media Publicity Coordination Committee and to finalise a translator recruitment for the PIB Aizawl office, according to police sources.
Governor Vijay Kumar Singh and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh both issued statements condemning the loss; Singh called it an "irreparable loss to the media community" and the MoD described the incident as a "high‑profile" tragedy.
Police say the vehicle veered off the road, but the exact cause remains under investigation. Rescue teams from Sialsuk Police and the Young Mizo Association are working in rugged terrain to recover bodies, while a joint inquiry has been ordered.
