Brahmavihari Swami, BAPS International Spokesperson, told NDTV’s Aditya Raj Kaul that artificial intelligence is not a mere invention but a reinvention of life, a claim he likened to fire, the light bulb and the wheel.
He warned that the technology could spawn a new species, noting that AI agents are now reproducing themselves, a phenomenon he described as "washing machines that make smaller washing machines."
Swami cautioned that if humanity lets AI hijack its thinking, the soul could be lost, and urged faith as a counterbalance, saying "if you face uncertainty with fear you make wrong choices, but faith can guide you."
He called for global faith‑driven governance, insisting that red‑light controls be kept while faith confronts uncertainty, and urged BAPS members to advocate for AI regulation that safeguards human agency.
The monk’s remarks came amid growing concerns over AI’s societal impact, and he said governments should enact regulatory frameworks to prevent the technology from overstepping human control.
