Nana Patekar, a titan of Indian cinema, finally sat down in 1997 to spill the raw truth about the heartbreak that followed his split with co‑star Manisha Koirala. He didn’t hold back – the veteran actor admitted, ‘I miss Manisha,’ and that his tears were a silent testament to the pain he endured.
Their chemistry had already lit up silver screens with hits like Khamoshi and Agni Sakshi— the latter earning Patekar a National Film Award for Best Actor. While filming Yug Purush, rumours of a romance blossomed, but the affair’s end left both actors grappling with personal and professional fallout.
During the interview, Nana described the breakup as ‘a very difficult phase’ and confessed he ‘can’t find words to describe the pain.’ He added that watching Koirala’s own struggles with alcohol weighed heavily on him, noting, ‘I can barely hold back the tears when I see what she’s doing to herself.’
Koirala, too, has spoken candidly about her post‑film life, chronicling her battle with sobriety in her memoir Healed. She later married businessman Samrat Dahal in 2010, a union that dissolved two years later.
After Patekar’s passing on Oct 8 in Goa, Koirala paid tribute on Instagram, praising his ‘great contribution to cinema’ and calling him a ‘true stalwart of the craft.’ The actor’s funeral in Pune was attended with full state honours, a fitting farewell to a legend.
For fans, this intimate glimpse into Patekar’s heart breaks the myth that stars are untouchable. It reminds us that behind every larger‑than‑life persona lies a soul that feels, hurts, and heals.
