Bengaluru‑based Infosys held its annual Americas Confluence in Washington, DC, last week, where senior leaders disclosed a sweeping workforce re‑design meant to counter the erosion of headcount‑based billing models.
A presentation revealed that 270,000 employees have already completed AI training, and 80,000 are actively operating with coding‑automation tools. The company is now channeling those skills into high‑value specialist roles.
Hiring has broadened beyond India’s premier institutes to top U.S. universities, as Infosys competes with AI labs for the same talent pool. In some deals, it absorbs surplus staff from clients and redeploys them on internal projects.
"The AI‑related revenue contributed 8% of our $20 billion top line in Q1, amounting to $1.6 billion and growing at a double‑digit pace," said CEO Salil Parekh, while COO Ashish Kumar Dash highlighted the need to shift from quantity to outcome‑based pricing.
The company’s cloud‑first, AI‑first platform—Topaz Fabric—now processes roughly 100 billion tokens and has 35 live implementations, with over 100 more underway. The stack routes work across 50 models and offers clients tuned open‑weight options for tighter data control.
Infosys plans to roll out the specialist re‑deployment in July, beginning with pilot projects for key enterprise clients. Rajesh Kumar, an engineer in the transition, said the move will require deeper AI expertise but promises clearer career paths.
The next milestone will be the company’s Q2 earnings call, where it will report the impact of the re‑design on productivity and revenue from AI services.
