CJP's Ajinkya Shinde announced a fresh protest at Jantar Mantar on Sunday, 11 October, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar after police detained over 7,000 protesters.
Police had earlier detained more than 7,000 demonstrators, including CJP national in-charge Ajinkya Shinde, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and several left‑wing leaders, when they attempted to assemble for the same cause on Saturday.
The demonstration was aimed at pressuring Kumar to step down over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, a move that critics say undermines electoral integrity.
Delhi Traffic Police warned commuters of possible disruptions across major arteries such as Jantar Mantar, Sansad Marg, Connaught Place, Mandi House, Rail Bhawan, Patel Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, Lodhi Road and Sardar Patel Marg starting at 6 a.m., urging drivers to allow extra travel time.
Student groups, notably the Students' Federation of India, joined the protest, pledging to march until their demands are met, even if police block their path.
Shinde said the CJP would not back down, insisting the protest would resume at 10 a.m. Sunday and that the party would persist until Gyanesh Kumar resigns.
