Police in Rajasthan’s Dungarpur district seized ₹4,95,500 worth of counterfeit ₹500 notes in the last 48 hours and arrested four suspects, raising the total in the case to six.
The mastermind, Ravi Mishra of Uttar Pradesh, fled Dungarpur after the investigation was unveiled, prompting a 1,300‑km chase that ended with his capture at Ludhiana railway station in Punjab, SP Manish Kumar said.
Anand Rajput of Ambala trained Mishra in the printing process, Arif Mohammad ran a Telegram channel that supplied paper, and Tarun Malekar provided Photoshop PSD files of ₹500 notes, SP Manish Kumar added.
Investigators say the gang got the idea from the web series "Farzi," which follows a counterfeit artist, and they used YouTube tutorials and Alibaba to source materials.
The Rajasthan High Court will hear the case on October 12, where prosecutors will seek a 12‑month preventive detention for Mishra. A local shopkeeper in Dungarpur reports that counterfeit notes have already been used to defraud customers.
