President Droupadi Murmu postponed her two‑day Odisha visit scheduled for Oct 28‑29 after the Indian Meteorological Department warned of a cyclonic storm that could hit the state’s coast.
The trip, originally set to cover Rairangpur and her home district of Mayurbhanj, will now take place on Nov 4‑5, officials said.
IMD’s bulletin said a low‑pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclone, with landfall expected on the morning of Oct 28 between north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha.
Coastal communities in Odisha have been urged to stay alert; local authorities are coordinating emergency shelters and evacuation plans.
Government officials will keep monitoring the storm’s development and will finalize the President’s itinerary once conditions allow.
