Six years after George Floyd’s death, his own family is at war over his money. Zsazsa, LaTonya, and Rodney Floyd sent a letter on August 11 to their brother Philonise, the current administrator of the estate, demanding a full accounting of the $19 million collected by the GoFundMe campaign. The three siblings, represented by a Houston-based lawyer, are not asking for a small check. They want the receipts.
The money raised in May 2020 was a global phenomenon. GoFundMe reported that 500,000 people donated to the campaign, making it the platform's most-supported fundraiser that year. But the numbers have shifted. While GoFundMe’s 2020 year-end report cited $14.7 million, the family’s new legal letter claims the total collected was closer to $19 million. That gap is where the trouble starts.
Philonise had promised the funds would cover funeral costs, counseling, and education for Floyd’s children. Now, his siblings say they have asked for these records before and received nothing. Rodney Floyd told TMZ the family just wants to see where the money went. Philonise has 20 days to comply. If he doesn't, the siblings are prepared to take this to court.
