Keerthy Suresh’s first Netflix venture, 'Akka', is set to drop on Oct 30, marking a bold shift from her theatrical roots.
When the casting director knocked on her door, she was told, ‘You’re a theatrical star—streaming isn’t for you.’ She laughed, ‘I don’t listen to that.’
The series places her as Bhavani, a chill gangster who runs the underworld with her sisters in a fictional Telugu town. ‘When you say gangster, I picture bloodshed,’ she mused. ‘Here, Bhavani’s calmness feels almost regal.’
Radhika Apte leads the pack, with Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshuman Pushkar and Monica Panwar adding heft. The YRF‑Netflix collaboration promises slick production values and a gritty narrative.
With the streaming landscape reshaping post‑COVID, Keerthy’s move could signal a broader acceptance of film stars in digital series, potentially opening doors for more cross‑platform projects.
