Puri told NDTV that, despite fears of a shortage triggered by the Hormuz dispute, the government has boosted domestic LPG production to 55,000‑56,000 tonnes per day, keeping supply steady across 107,000 petrol pumps.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already ordered a ramp‑up of output, lifting the target from 34,000 to 56,000 tonnes, a move that Puri praised as decisive.
The temporary restrictions were introduced after a spike in panic buying saw daily cylinder usage jump from 52 lakh to 90 lakh, prompting the ministry to curb hoarding after a Gurugram family hoarded cylinders despite having piped gas.
Puri also highlighted that the digital booking app allows consumers to order cylinders and have them delivered within 24 hours, a system that has prevented any dry‑out across the country.
