Dr Afeena Raheem was found unconscious in the kitchen of her Sharjah apartment and died shortly after being rushed to the hospital, her husband Yasser T told Khaleej Times. The 32-year-old Keralite, who had been living in the UAE for over four years, was on a career break from dentistry to care for her two young children, aged three-and-a-half and one-and-a-half. Her sister, Ramsheena, who shares the residence, woke to the sound of the children crying and discovered Afeena collapsed before attempting CPR.
Yasser, a teacher, was at work when the incident occurred and said his wife had no known underlying medical conditions. "She was in good health," he stated. The family had returned to Sharjah on August 19, ending a summer vacation in India less than a month prior.
The suddenness of the collapse has left the family and local authorities scrambling for answers. Preliminary reports confirm she collapsed and died, but the specific medical cause remains unconfirmed. Ramsheena’s husband, Hakeem, detailed the chaotic morning: he had sent his son to school before returning to sleep, only to be roused by the distress of Afeena’s children.
The death certificate is the immediate hurdle. Once issued, the family plans to transport Afeena’s body to her hometown in Malappuram, where her parents and two sisters await for final rites. Until then, the case remains an open investigation into the sudden death of a healthy young professional.
