In a fiery address at the state assembly, Banerjee declared, "We don’t disrespect the constitutional chair, this is a black day in our democratic history." She called the decision illegal, biased, undemocratic and politically motivated.
The Election Commission defended its procedure, stating it follows constitutional provisions and guidelines for symbol distribution. A BJP spokesperson said the party has no pending appeals against the decision.
Banerjee has called for an independent audit of the commission's decision and threatened to file a petition in the Calcutta High Court. The next step will be a legal challenge in the High Court.
