Election Commission pulled the SIR declaration from Form 6 on its portal for states that had completed the Special Intensive Revision, a move that took place on Wednesday night after a decision on September 26. The declaration, which had been inserted between Sections J and K, was visible only in 13 states where the SIR exercise is still underway, while it was absent in counties that had already finalized their rolls.
Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections to the addition, arguing that the statutory form can only be amended by the Union Law Ministry. Their concerns prompted the Commission to clarify that the declaration will be used solely during the SIR period and not after the exercise concludes.
During a full Commission meeting on Saturday, the decision was made to restrict the SIR declaration to the revision phase. Consequently, new voters applying through Form 6 in states where the SIR has finished will no longer have to map themselves or their parents to the previous SIR electoral roll.
The updated rule will take effect immediately and will be reflected in the next voter registration cycle. State election officers are now preparing updated guidelines to align the enrolment process with the Commission’s revised directive.
