West Indies chased 250 in 18.5 overs to level the five‑match T20I series 1‑1, beating India by six wickets. Shai Hope blasted 102 off 45 balls, and Sherfane Rutherford added 84 off 37, taking the match into the final over.
India’s chase had already faltered; Sanju Samson had led the way with 82 off 41, but the wickets fell too fast, and the Indian XI could not hold the target.
After the loss, former Australian all‑rounder Shane Watson took to Prime Video’s YouTube channel to slam Gambhir’s 'chopping and changing' of the batting order. The thing that you continue to see and the reason India have been inconsistent under Gambhir is the chopping and changing around the batting order all the time, Watson said.
Watson also praised Gambhir for backing players, pointing to Samson’s heroics in the knockout stages of the T20 World Cup. 'Gambhir has done wonders for Samson,' he added, 'and Samson repaid him with amazing performances behind the back of the T20 World Cup.'
But the former national captain insists that continuity is key. 'There needs to be a little more continuity, and for world cricket, if they do that, they are going to be ridiculously hard to beat,' Watson warned.
India will face West Indies again in Indore on Sunday for the deciding third T20I, and then head to New Zealand for an extensive all‑format tour.
