In a statement released on Wednesday, BJP MP Sambit Patra dismissed allegations that the election body was under a dictatorial regime, insisting that the three commissioners had been engaging in regular dialogue.
Patra highlighted that Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had recorded 14 formal objections over ten months, covering voter registration, deletions, electoral‑roll software and appeals against decisions made during the revision.
Sources inside the poll panel, however, said there was no dissent; the objections were considered and examined by the Commission, which maintained that the final SIR outcome was reached unanimously.
The opposition parties seized on the story, accusing the government of undermining constitutional institutions, while Patra countered that the Congress was merely attacking the election body after failing to win elections.
The government plans to address the criticism in the next parliamentary session, where lawmakers will debate the Commission’s procedures and the integrity of the electoral rolls.
