He fell to Malaysia’s Ng Eain Yow in straight games—11–9, 11–5, 11–5—in the Asian Games 2026 men’s singles final on Sunday. The world No. 17 proved too consistent for the Indian, capping a dominant performance to claim the continental crown.
The opening game was a knife-fight. Both players traded blows, with Ng holding a slim 4–3 lead early on. Abhay, ranked world No. 26, kept the pressure on with attacking shots. A brilliant change of angle at 8–7 caught Ng off guard, keeping the Indian in the hunt. But Ng managed the closing minutes better, snatching the game 11–9. That narrow margin kept Abhay alive, but the momentum was shifting.
Ng took control from there. He powered through the second game 11–5, putting Abhay on the back foot. The Indian needed three straight games to turn it around, but Ng dictated the rallies. Abhay started the third game well, jumping to 4–2, but Ng responded quickly. The Malaysian steadied the ship, moved to 6–5, and closed it out 11–5 to seal the gold.
It’s another medal for India in squash, and a strong showing for Abhay. Now, all eyes turn to the women’s singles final. Anahat Singh is set to face Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam in the next major event.
