Najamunnisa Begum, 91, was attacked by a monkey at her home in B.T. Patil Nagar, Koppal, Karnataka, and died the next day.
The attack was captured on a CCTV camera outside the compound, and her daughter was also bitten before Begum was rushed to a private hospital.
Although she initially appeared to be recovering, her condition worsened and she died during treatment.
The incident follows a string of fatal monkey attacks across India, including a 55‑year‑old woman who died in Aligarh, a woman who fell from a rooftop in Shimla, and a 65‑year‑old farmer who died in Kakinada.
Residents and local officials have demanded a ₹5 lakh compensation package for Begum’s family and called for stricter control of wandering monkeys, langurs, and stray dogs.
Police have launched an investigation into the attack and are planning to deploy additional wildlife officers to monitor the area.
