Rahul Gandhi told the INDIA bloc on Saturday that the Election Commission had deleted 13.3 crore names from the voter rolls, a move he said could change the 3‑percent margin that secured the BJP’s victory. He accused the CEC of orchestrating an illegal election. He demanded that the Commission be impeached and tried for treason. Gandhi framed the impeachment motion as a 'new political weapon' that the opposition could wield to defend the Constitution. He warned that the weapon would strike hard if the CEC continued down his path. The Congress leader said it was a matter of protecting the voice of the people. The INDIA bloc had already passed a symbolic motion calling for the CEC’s impeachment during a gathering at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday. The CEC, Gyanesh Kumar, has denied the allegations, calling them politically motivated. He has urged the Parliament to focus on electoral integrity rather than personal attacks. The next step will be a parliamentary vote on the impeachment motion scheduled for next week, after which the opposition may seek a criminal trial.
