CBI raided Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's camp office in Chandigarh on Tuesday, following a Punjab and Haryana High Court order to investigate corruption allegations. The search covered Sector 2, House No. 50, and the residence of Mann’s Officer on Special Duty, Rajbir Singh Ghuman, in Gharachon village, Sangrur.
The raid comes after the Enforcement Directorate sent three letters to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, flagging a network that allegedly used private intermediaries to influence transfers, postings, and tenders in a money‑laundering probe tied to land‑use changes.
The High Court directed the CBI to register a criminal case and submit a status report within two months, while the state has petitioned the Supreme Court to quash the order and keep the case in its own hands.
Mann accused the BJP‑led Centre of politicising the CBI and the ED, claiming the agencies would be misused to defame his government and that the raid signals election preparations. AAP’s Anurag Dhanda and Congress’s Sukhpal Singh Khaira echoed the opposition’s stance, demanding the chief minister and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal face the investigation.
The CBI has yet to release an official statement, but it is expected to file its findings before the Supreme Court hearing scheduled for next month, a decision that could shape the political narrative ahead of the Punjab elections.
