Ukraine launched more than 1,000 drones at Russia overnight, with a significant number targeting Moscow, the Kremlin said. Two residents were killed and 20 injured in the wider Moscow region, governor Andrei Vorobyov reported. An oil refinery near the capital sustained damage, adding to the attack's impact.
President Zelensky confirmed the refinery strike in a tweet, saying the attack was part of Kyiv's strategy to cut off Russia's war‑financing energy infrastructure. He listed domestically produced Flamingo and Pelican missiles as part of the strike package.
Meanwhile, a mother and her two children were killed in a Russian drone strike near Kyiv, emergency services said. Russia's defense ministry said 1,100 Ukrainian drones were shot down across the country, including Crimea and the Black Sea.
The attacks occurred on the third day of Russia's parliamentary elections, with Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin accusing Kyiv of trying to disrupt the vote. Voting also took place in the four partially controlled Ukrainian regions and Crimea, which Ukraine deems illegal.
Since the 2022 invasion, Ukraine has steadily advanced its long‑range drone capabilities, using them to strike deep inside Russian territory and pressure President Putin into negotiations. Russia’s defense ministry said 1,100 drones were shot down, underscoring the scale of the assault.
