Abhijeet Dipke, the hard‑hitting founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, posted a video on X that calls for a mass march in Kochi on Sunday, November 7. His message frames the protest as the next step in a broader campaign urging the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the controversial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Dipke says the SIR, which began in August, has reportedly added thousands of names that many voters say never existed, sparking accusations of gerrymandering.
The rally will take place at Rajendra Maidan, a public square that has hosted protests before, at 4 p.m. This time, organizers anticipate around 15,000 participants, including local political activists, students, and ordinary citizens who say the roll revisions threaten their vote integrity.
Dipke did not mention any official invitation from the Election Commission, but he warned that the CEC’s agency will be under scrutiny in a potential judicial review. The CEC’s office remains silent, but the Election Commission’s spokesperson said it will comply with any court order regarding the SIR.
If the protest turns violent or disrupts traffic, police may impose a curfew, and the Supreme Court could be asked to order a fresh audit of the rolls. The next major development will be a hearing set for December 15, where a panel of judges will examine the evidence presented by the protestors and the Election Commission.
