Beyond the battery, the company showcased its integrated eDrive unit, matching the new pack’s power electronics and a bespoke thermal‑management system. Together, they promise smoother power delivery and longer component life, especially under the heavy loads typical of freight vans.
In the competitive LFP arena, BorgWarner’s offering sits next to CATL’s 58‑kWh packs used in some Mercedes‑Benz and Volvo vans, and LG Chem’s 60‑kWh modules that dominate the German market. While those rivals focus on high energy density, BorgWarner’s pack trades a touch of capacity for durability and cost‑effectiveness.
EU’s upcoming zero‑emission targets and the new battery duty regime are pushing fleet operators to seek cheaper, lighter batteries without sacrificing payload. A lighter pack means more cargo space or a smaller vehicle footprint, directly cutting the total cost of ownership that many operators track.
The technology debuted at IAA 2026, but BorgWarner says OEMs can expect to receive prototypes by Q4 2026, with commercial deliveries rolling out across Germany and the UK in early 2027. Fleet managers should keep an eye on the rollout schedule, as early adopters may lock in preferential pricing.
